The goal of this program is to allocate automatic AED defibrillators on several frequent spots all around the city, and to educate fireman, nurses and police officers for professional usage.
Many people, frequently coronary patients but also healthy young persons or athletes, die of sudden cardiac death after unforeseen hearth intermission.
For this reason 350 000 people die every year in USA (1000 persons per a day!), in Croatia 6-7 thousand of people, and in City of Split 300 persons in one year (one person per a day!), namely 1-2 persons on 1000 habitants per year.
This number exceeds annual mortality of AIDS, breast cancer and cancer of prostate, house-fires, firearms (out of wars) and car accidents altogether. Until recently, only 2-5% of people with heart intermission survived, but with modern equipment (automatic defibrillators) and reanimation this number could be significantly higher. How? |
